Supplements for Women: What Women Should Know About Supplements
I have always been a believer and faithful user of supplements. I take a multivitamin daily, as well as additional herbal supplements that address my specific problem areas.
I am noticing more and more that even during a time of recession, women are more concerned than ever before and are trying to be more proactive when it comes to their health. Vitamins, minerals and herbs have grown into a multi-billion dollar industry as women everywhere are constantly looking for more and better ways to improve their health.
Taking supplements to improve or maintain good health is a good thing. But, be warned, much of what is promoted today is overdrawn and hype driven.
It would be wise for you to do your research and consult your doctor before starting any new supplements, especially if you are taking any medications that could could cause a dangerous reaction when taken while on medication.
To get you started in your research, I will share some information about some of the most popular vitamins, minerals and herbs.
Calcium – This supplement is essential to building strong healthy bones. More research has also shown that calcium helps relieve some PMS symptoms, also reduce the risk of colon cancer and possibly reduce cholesterol and blood pressure.
Fish Oil – If you are at risk for or have heart disease, you should consider taking a fish oil supplement. Omega-3 fatty acids have benefits that may help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, slow progression of hardening of arteries in heart disease.
Vitamin D – This vitamin is the essential key to ensure that your body absorbs and utilizes the calcium that you body needs for healthy bone density and strength. While the sun is a major source of vitamin D, their may be those that could benefit from adding more vitamin D.

DISCLAMER: Please be advised that this is for informational purposes only, based on my own personal research to know more about the topic and should not be taken as professional advise. If you believe you are ill or have any disease, you should seek the advice and treatment of a medical professional.

ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER BEFORE CHANGING ANYTHING IN YOUR CURRENT REGIME, BUT…
For many years I have been recommending the following for women 18 years of age and older:
Per day: 1,200 mg Calcium and 1, 200 mg Magnesium, in divided doses.
Many alternative health care providers suggest a ratio of 2:1=calcium:magnesium, but I disagree with this. If your current supplement is formulated with this ratio (and most are) simply add a 400 mg Magnesium Oxide (any major brand) to that big old Cal-Mag ‘chunk of chalk’.
God Bless You & Keep You in Good Health!

Hello Rev. Barbara, You know I had not even realized I posted this. I’m actually still working on this article and hope to have it finished before the week is out. Thanks for your comment and it is very timely indeed.
Hi Dee
I don’t take any supplements but appreciate that some people need to. I know in America it seems to be more prevalent than here in Oz, although it is becoming big business here too.
I am blessed with good health and try to live an organic lifestyle. We have heaps of healthy fruit and veg at our disposal and I’ve never eaten junk food and don’t eat processed food either.
Hope you are keeping well Dee. Interesting article too.
